Aboriginal Mental Health Services

Mission Statement

The mental health program of BNH is committed to the positive promotion of mental health among Aboriginal women and youth in the Brant County area.  Our mental health program includes coordinating and delivering culturally specific mental health services for Aboriginal women and youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness; culturally specific crisis intervention; plan of care development and/or referral services; establishing programs and services that aid in the prevention of homelessness and at risk states within the Aboriginal community.

Aboriginal Mental Health - Community Support Services

The Aboriginal mental health program provides community support for Aboriginal women or youth living within Brantford.  Services are available to individuals 18 years of age or older and who are seeking assistance and support for mental health related issues.  

 

Services Include: 

  • Initial assessment, intake and information, referral services, utilizing the Haudenosaunee Reconnection through the Tree Rings healing model

  • Individual plan of care development and goal setting

  • Education and information workshops regarding mental health issues

  • Aboriginal specific mental health resource information

  • Assist with emergency crisis intervention, as requested

  • Participation in a local working groups designed to improve services for the Aboriginal population

  • Attend external agency interventions, as requested. (i.e. Hospital, Children’s Aid Society, Police, Probation, etc.)

Referral Process: Individuals may refer themselves. A doctor or a community worker may also make a referral on your behalf. However, all referrals are voluntary and individuals must consent to the referral.
