Aboriginal Outreach Program

Mission Statement

 

The Aboriginal Outreach Services program of BNH is committed to fostering and encouraging the healing of the spirit; coordinating and delivering culturally sensitive and appropriate outreach services to Aboriginal women, children and youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness; establishing programs and services that aid in the prevention of homelessness and at risk states within the Aboriginal community; provide culturally specific crisis intervention, information and referral services to those who are experiencing homelessness or at risk states and to provide a full range of support services and prevention measures to residential and outreach clientele who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, the hidden homeless, crisis sheltered, living on the street, chronically living on the street and episodically sheltered.  

 

Services Include:

 

·         Schedule of cultural events in Brantford, Brant County, Six Nations of the Grand River, New Credit First Nation and surrounding communities 

·         Assisting individuals complete external application and referral forms as needed 

·         Assist with emergency crisis intervention, as requested

·         Assist in identifying, securing, picking up of and delivery of donated items as requested by the clientele to provide basic necessities. (i.e. clothes, furniture, etc.)

·         Outreach activities that include securing and distributing informational and resource packets to community members/agencies  

·         Initial assessment, Intake and Information Referral services, utilizing the Haudenausaunee Reconnection through the Tree Rings healing model 

·         Informational workshops and sessions provided upon request to external agencies 

·         Participation in a local working groups designed to improve services for the Aboriginal population 

·         Attend external agency interventions as requested. (i.e. Children’s Aid Society, Police, Probation, etc.)

 

Referral Process

 

Individuals may refer themselves. A community worker and/or support agency may also make a referral on your behalf. However, all referrals are voluntary and individuals must consent to the referral.
