Aboriginal Child & Youth Program
Mission Statement
The Aboriginal Child & Youth Program of Brantford Native Housing is
committed to the positive promotion of mental, emotional, spiritual, and
physical growth among Aboriginal children and youth in the Brant County
area. The program will offer culturally specific supports, counseling
and education for Aboriginal children, youth, families, and the
community.
Aboriginal Child & Youth Services
The Aboriginal Child & Youth Program provides support and education for
Aboriginal families living within Brant County. Services are available
for children and youth between the ages of 5 and 18 years of age who are
in need of assistance and support. As well, services such as parental
guidance, advocacy, and support are available to the parents/guardians
of the children and youth participating in the program.
Services Include:

Culturally specific individual and group counseling sessions
·
Issue specific counseling sessions (i.e. children witnessing violence,
substance abuse prevention, regular school participation, etc.)
·
Initial assessment, intake and information, and referral services,
utilizing the Haudenausaunee Reconnection through the Tree Rings healing
model
·
Plan of Care development and goal setting
·
Planned activities for Aboriginal children, youth, and families that
encourage positive social development/interaction
·
Planned culturally specific activities designed to strengthen individual
understanding of specific Aboriginal culture(s), problem solving,
community harmony, family harmony, and individual well-being
·
Parental/guardian education, support and guidance
·
Community referrals, education and advocacy
Referral Process:
Parents/guardians may refer their child(ren)/youth. A community or
agency worker may also make a referral on the parent/guardian’s behalf.
However, all referrals are voluntary and individuals must consent to the
referral. |
